91-year-old Crochets Potholders for Families

Watch the story here

A 91-year-old’s positive attitude and spirit reign supreme throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Determined to help her community, one woman is crocheting potholders with matching tough nylon scrubbers to donate to Partners in Housing.

Partners in Housing is a non-profit agency that seeks to provide homeless families with children a year of housing and intensive supportive services to help them achieve self-sufficiency.

Amid store closings, 91-year-old Vi Koets orders crochet supplies online. She’s even enlisted the help of her son, who lives in Denver, to send packages of supplies.

Koets’ neighbor, Cindy Perry, says she’s very proud of her neighbor. She wrote into KRDO saying, “While these sets may not be essential masks, they are useful to every household and I hope would also be a joyous and uplifting gift during these times — something hand made, brand new, with the sole purpose of those families in mind.”

Perry adds, “In Colorado Springs, the ‘most vulnerable population’ with this virus is NOT necessarily the most incapacitated, despite never leaving her home all these weeks!”
