Teen Explores Career Path
Summer 2011
In June 2011, Rachel- a teen in the Partners in Housing program- was selected from a large pool of applicants to attend the Sherrif’s Office Teen Academy. To be considered for acceptance, Rachel was required to write an essay outlining why she would like to attend the 35-hour training.
During the intense academy, Rachel learned about the different units in the El Paso County Sherriff’s Office, including the SWAT Team, Canine Unit, and Computer Crimes, and was introduced to different types of fingerprinting, criminal investigations, and case files.
After having a taste of the excitement, Rachel has concluded she is still interested in working in the criminal justice field in her future.
